The bathroom is frequently at the heart of disagreements in many relationships.

How many times have you argued about hair left all over the sink and floor after hubby has shaved or a stinky toilet that somebody was too lazy to clean after use?

We ladies are not off the hook either. We’re sometimes guilty of leaving makeup sprinkled or smeared on the bathroom counter and having bottles of product scattered everywhere. Oops!

Something so simple as a 5-minute bathroom cleaning routine can save the day. After everyone is done getting ready, leave surfaces gleaming with a quick tidy-up. Print out and use the free Bathroom Cleaning Checklist that’s available in this post.

1. Clear Surfaces

First, start off by clearing the countertops. Ideally, everyone that uses the bathroom should have their own designated drawer, shelf or space in the cupboard under-the-sink so that they can clean up after themselves.

Pack away anything you used that doesn’t belong on the counters—makeup, hair tools or other products.

Place dirty clothes into the laundry basket and hang damp towels to dry.

2. Clean Surfaces

Spray the shower with a daily cleaner designed to prevent the build-up of soap scum. Do this right after the last person takes a shower.

Now that the counters are clear, wipe them and the sink with an all-purpose cleaning product and cloth. Doing this removes hair, makeup and toothpaste.

Wipe the toilet handle, seat, rim and then, wipe the floor around the base of the toilet in that order. You can use the same all-purpose cleaner but I like using Lysol wipes for this.

If you own a Swiffer Sweeper, quickly grab any hair that has fallen to the floor.

Using a microfiber cloth and glass cleaner, wipe off the mirror. This removes toothpaste spatter and fingerprints. My nephew always has fingerprints and smudges all over the mirror for some reason and it drives me absolutely crazy so this has become his chore. It’s only fair, I think.

The final step on the Bathroom Cleaning Checklist is to straighten up items left on the counters and spray with air freshener.

3. Straighten Up

Pull the shower curtain across, if you have one, so it can dry thoroughly. Restock toilet paper, if necessary and straighten any decorative items that sit on your counters.

Spritz the room with air freshener and you’re done!

It might not even take you five full minutes to complete this bathroom cleaning routine but it will work wonders. No more fights with your significant other about the untidy state of this room.

Bathroom Cleaning Tips

Keep all of the cleaning products you need in a readily accessible space in the bathroom. This makes it so easy to just grab what you need and do the tasks on this bathroom cleaning checklist. Also, if all of the supplies are within reach, you’ll be more likely to complete this short routine.

Here’s a summary of all the cleaning supplies I recommend:

  • Daily cleaner
  • All-purpose cleaning product
  • Lysol wipes
  • Swiffer Sweeper
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Glass cleaner

Make these steps a daily habit and your bathroom will always be clean and tidy. It doesn’t have to be you that does this routine either. Whoever uses the bathroom last can be responsible for getting it done.

Once a week, or as needed, add a couple more steps like emptying the trash, cleaning the tub or shower and mopping the entire floor.

Cleaning the bathroom everyday may seem like a chore but it actually makes deep cleaning much easier in the long run. Plus, your bathroom will always be in tip-top shape.
