Follow this quick and easy daily kitchen cleaning checklist for tips to get a spotless kitchen at home.
The kitchen is the heart of the home and this is precisely why it gets dirty so fast.
It’s where you cook yummy meals which means spills and spatters happen. And, it’s where everyone just naturally tends to gather to chat, do homework or whatever which results in clutter getting left behind.
One easy way to keep this room clean is to follow a daily kitchen cleaning schedule. Why daily?
Well, this is where you store and prepare food. That alone should be a good reason. But, if that’s not enough, when guests pop by unannounced, you don’t want them greeted by a dirty kitchen, do you?
I’m guessing the answer is no.
Don’t worry, a quick and easy clean-up is all you need. So, here’s a daily kitchen cleaning checklist you can utilize to keep the most frequently used room in your home spotless. Grab the free printable at the end of this post.

Clear Clutter From Surfaces
Flat surfaces are magnets for clutter and the kitchen has plenty of them. Countertops and the kitchen table just beg you to leave stuff all over them. Please, resist that urge!
At the end of each day, remove clutter from surfaces. Put kitchen items back in their rightful spots and use the empty box or basket to gather clutter that belongs to other rooms.
It’s always a good idea to prevent clutter from building up in the first place. Take a look at the kinds of things that constantly pile up in the kitchen. Is there lots of paper clutter—bills, school documents and other kinds of paperwork that you bring in the house with you? Does your family always bring items into the kitchen and then leave them behind?
Find solutions for the clutter. Create a station by the entry to manage paperwork e.g. wall-hung folders and a shredder by the front door. Keep a basket for items that belong in other rooms of the house near to the kitchen entrance or on a counter. Place all the random clutter in that basket and when it’s full, grab it and take things back where they belong. Try different methods until you figure out what works best for your family.
Wipe Surfaces
In the kitchen, things happen—spatters and spills as you cook and crumbs fall on the counters and table as you eat. Dirt and dust will accumulate over time as well.
Once your kitchen counters and other surfaces have been cleared of clutter, then it’s time to wipe them down. Clean up any spills as they happen. They’ll be much easier to take care of that way.
Quickly wipe the refrigerator door and handles as well. Is it just me or does the fridge get gross really fast?
Use a cleaning solution that won’t damage your countertops and a microfiber cloth to wipe down the counters and table. Brush any crumbs and dust on to the floor. Don’t worry, you’ll get to that later.
Finally, brush loose crumbs from the stove top to the floor and wipe it clean. Do this last because the stove may leave the cleaning cloth greasy.
Wash the Dishes
I find it incredibly annoying to have a sink full of dirty dishes especially when I’m about to cook. It prevents me from moving around freely and getting in and out of the kitchen as quickly as I would like. But, I know that not everyone feels this way.
It’s much easier to clean up as you go throughout the day or while cooking than to have an overwhelming stack of dishes to deal with. Instead of piling up the dishes, pots and pans, wash them as soon as you’re done with them. While cooking, clean up any items you used.
It’s not always possible to wash dishes immediately after using though. If things need to soak, fill the sink with warm soapy water and allow them to sit in there while you finish cooking or eating. They’ll be even easier to clean afterwards.
If you own a dishwasher, place the dishes, pots and cutlery in there and run it. Remember to remove everything after they’ve been cleaned and put them away.
Rinse out the sink to remove any food particles that may have built up there (another pet peeve of mine, yuck!). Clean the dish sponge.
Empty the Trash and Clean the Floors
Mop, if necessary and quickly sweep or vacuum the floor.
