Introducing The 2018 Kitchen Declutter Challenge…

What is it?

The 2018 Kitchen Declutter Challenge is a 31-day plan designed to help you clean and organize every space in your kitchen. You will receive tips and tutorials and plenty of organization inspiration along the way to keep you motivated.

Why the Kitchen?

The kitchen is the heart of the home.  It’s usually where you spend a lot of your time. In most homes, this room is also multi-functional. In addition to cooking meals, you may use your kitchen as an office, craft room and hang-out spot. As a result, clutter builds up very quickly.

You will probably find paper clutter, tools, expired foods, as well as toys, clothing and maybe even sports gear especially if your kitchen is near to your home’s entryway. It’s time to get rid of all of those items and give your most-used room the special treatment it deserves!

The challenge has been designed to kick-start the decluttering process in your home. Hopefully, when you’re done with this room, you’ll want to do more.

What’s involved?

For the next thirty-one days, we will be sorting through every nook and cranny of the kitchen and removing all the obvious clutter that doesn’t belong.

This is supposed to be quick. I’m busy. You’re busy. Nobody has a ton of time to dedicate to cleaning and organization. I love an organized space but I don’t want to spend all day getting it that way. So, with that said, spend about fifteen minutes per day working on each task.

I have added in an “Extra Day” every week where there is no assigned task. If you need a little more time on a particular area or you’ve fallen behind, use this day to get back on track.

What Do You Need To Join?

Well first, download and print the free calendar and checklist with the assigned tasks. This way you can see exactly what’s coming and what you need to be doing. Click the link below to download the free printables for the challenge if you haven’t already.

That’s really all you need to get started.

Extra Tips

Here are some tips to help you to stay on track:

  1. Get rid of distractions. Put your phone away and switch the TV off. Do the challenge tasks while your kids are engrossed with something or when they’re in bed.
  2. Set a timer. When you’re working against the clock, you’ll stay more focused and move quicker. You can set the timer on the microwave.
  3. Keep your Donate, Recycle and Trash bins nearby while you work through this challenge. It’s way more convenient.
  4. Don’t be a perfectionist. Remember this is supposed to be a quick process. You want to get rid of the junk not have a Pinterest-worthy kitchen. Well… we all want that but that’s not the point of this challenge.
  5. If, or maybe I should say when, you come across items that don’t belong in the kitchen. Place them in one spot so that when you’ve done the daily task, you can put them in their rightful place.
  6. Don’t be discouraged if you take longer than anticipated. Remember it has probably taken years to accumulate all of these items.

Joining Late?

If you’re late to the game, it’s just fine! Simply use the handy checklist to start. Tick off each day as you go. (Checking items off a list is so stinking satisfying!)
