Whether it’s daily, weekly or monthly, a home cleaning schedule makes life easy. Here are some tips for keeping up with housework and free printables to get you started creating a cleaning routine.
Raise your hand if you enjoy cleaning your house and just can’t get enough of it.
Yea, that’s what I thought.
Only a select few, who walk among us, seem to like housework. For the rest of us, cleaning our homes feels like a never-ending series of tedious chores. As soon as you’re done, it’s time to start all over again. Ugh.
Also, is it just me or is it hard to keep up with housework?
Life is chaotic enough and I’ll jump at the chance to make cleaning seem less stressful. If you’re like me, then you need to create a home cleaning schedule.
What is that?
I’m glad you asked!
Simply put, it’s a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual cleaning routine for your house. It can be one task or a series of them that you choose to do at a particular time.
Now, if this sounds super complicated, relax! I’m going to walk you through step-by-step so you can create a cleaning schedule that works best for your lifestyle.

How To Create A Home Cleaning Schedule
Create a Master List of Tasks
First, create a master task list so you know what to clean. You need to assess your particular needs before you can even decide when you will do each task.
Everyone’s cleaning routine will be different. What may work for a stay-at-home mom of one living in small apartment will not suit a working mother of five young kids who reside in a five bedroom house.
Go through your home room-by-room and assess what needs to get done. Write it down as you go to give yourself a better idea.

Decide How Often You Will Clean
Next up, determine how often you will clean. This needs to be a plan that will fit in with your schedule and personality.
Do you prefer to do a little bit every day? Would you like to tackle one room at a time or perhaps you prefer to leave it all to the weekend and do everything at once?
Be realistic about how much time you have and want to dedicate to your home cleaning schedule. There’s really no right way to do this. Just pick something you can accomplish.
If you try one of the plans below and it doesn’t work for you, switch it up! I often follow the last plan listed but sometimes I change things according to how I feel on a given week.
Here are some of the most common types of cleaning routines you’ll hear about:
1. Daily Speed Cleaning
A great way to keep your home spotless in very little time each day is speed cleaning. This can actually reduce the need for deep cleaning as dust doesn’t really get the chance to build up.
Spend an hour or less tidying up and add in a task from the weekly cleaning schedule you can find in the Cleaning Bundle.
2. Set A Time Limit
Try timing your daily cleaning sessions. When I’m racing against the clock, I tend to do a bit more than I usually would.
Set a timer for the maximum amount of time you want to spend house cleaning and begin. The next day, simply pick up where you left off.
When you lack motivation to clean, this is a good way to get going. Sometimes, I say I’ll tidy up for just fifteen minutes but once I get started, I often continue way past that time.
3. One Room or Task At A Time
If you choose this plan, then you’ll be completing one major task or cleaning one room each day. For example, Tuesday may be your laundry day while you clean the bathrooms on Friday.
Of course, the time that you take to complete a specific task or room will vary.
4. All At Once
If you work long hours during the week and then come home to cook dinner and help your kids with homework, cleaning during the week may not be an option for you.
In this case, you can do it all at once. Use a chore chart to delegate different tasks to family members so you’re not struggling with housework alone. This is a great idea especially when you have older kids. You’re not the only one who dirties the house, right?
Here’s what the Chore Chart included in the bundle looks like.
Getting help from your family is one of the secrets to keeping a clean house. One person can be responsible for the same thing each week or you can switch it up to prevent anyone from getting bored. Whatever works for you!
Create A Cleaning Routine That Works
Now, you know what to clean and how often you’ll be doing it, the final step is to create your home cleaning schedule.
Fill in a calendar. Use one in your planner or complete a digital one like Google calendar which is free.
Even though I dislike the act of cleaning, I love the end result—a clean and tidy house that sparkles and smells fresh. A good housework routine makes house cleaning easier and I don’t forget to do anything.
I’m all about making life simpler and if you are too, get started on a home cleaning schedule of your own!
