Time just seems to fly by in the morning, doesn’t it? You wake up and suddenly, you’re sitting at work trying to recall whether you put on deodorant because you left in such a rush.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could slow down a bit and maybe even have time to sip your coffee at home? Well, stick around because I’m going to share ten awesome tips to help you get ready fast and save time in the morning.
How To Get Ready Fast And Save Time
It’s no big secret that you will have more time if you have less things to do so many of these suggestions revolve around doing tasks the night before.
1. Check the weather
Say what?
I know it seems weird but bear with me. Let’s say there’s going to be huge rainstorm in the morning. That means traffic is going to be extra heavy and slow. You will probably need to leave home a bit earlier than usual.
Maybe it’s going to snow in your area. That will impact your outfit choice. The point is when you know what to expect, you can plan accordingly.
2. Choose Your Outfit
I have spent many mornings standing in front of my closet and staring inside while I decide what to wear. There have also been mornings where I got dressed and promptly changed because I just didn’t like the outfit that particular day. That’s a lot of wasted time!
Do yourself a favour and select your clothes the previous night after checking the weather forecast. Then you will have plenty of time to pick an outfit that you will look amazing wearing. At the same time, check that the clothes are clean and complete any repairs needed e.g. attach missing buttons. Iron, if necessary, and hang it up so it’s ready and waiting for the next day.
3. Gather Essentials In One Place
During school days, my mother always made me pack my bag the night before. Several years later, I grudgingly admit that mother knows best. (Of course, not to her face. Shhhh!)
In any case, you should follow the same principle because it works. No more racing around the house looking for your keys. Gather everything you will need the following day and leave it close to the door.
4. Make Ahead Meals
Prep your breakfast and pack lunches during the night. I know by now I must sound like a broken record but these tips really are effective.
Meal planning is a life saver for this step. Prepare multiple breakfasts and lunches at one time. Make sure to include snacks as well and put it all in one spot in the fridge. In the morning, all you need to do is grab your meals and be on your way.
5. Set the Coffee Pot Timer
If you drink coffee, there’s nothing like waking up to that freshly brewed aroma. I don’t actually drink coffee but I do love the smell!
Since your coffee is already made by the time you get out of bed, this is one less thing you need to do.
6. Alarm Clock
I hate regular alarm clock noises. There’s something about it that makes me want to smash the annoying object to pieces. For this reason, I set an alarm on my cell phone and use soothing music to wake me.
If you find yourself hitting the snooze button, place your alarm or cell phone across the room. That way, you will have to get out of bed to turn it off. If you hate the noise as much as I do, you’ll get up quickly just to make it stop.
So now we can move on to the tips that actually occur in the morning.
7. Keep It Simple
Keep your hair and makeup as simple as possible when you are getting ready for work. You might even try cutting your hair (Yes, I said it!) into a low-maintenance do. Less time required to wash, dry and style. Think about the time you will save!
Keep your makeup to a bare minimum. Use multi-purpose products where you can like a blush/ lipstick combo.
8. Get Organized
Sort through your makeup. Discard expired products and ones you don’t use. Then, organize the rest. Every time you apply makeup, put each product right back where it belongs. That way, you can easily find what you need the next day.
9. Coordinate Routines
If you need to share a bathroom with your husband or other family members, work out a schedule to coordinate tasks or stagger them. For instance, you can get the kids ready, while hubby showers and dresses and then he can watch them while you shower and dress. Afterwards, you all eat breakfast together.
Do whatever works for you so that everyone doesn’t end up trying to shower at the same time.
10. Avoid Distractions
Watching the news, checking emails and social media are great ways for your morning routine to get completely derailed. It’s so easy to get caught up in these distractions that you will end up wasting valuable time.
Ignore outside influences until you actually have time. Not when you are rushing to get out the door.
Follow these easy tips to save time and get ready fast every morning. You will be more relaxed and ready to get on with the day.
