We all feel stress at some point in our lives, whether it’s due to work or family problems, and being able to combat that stress quickly is important. You don’t need to go to a spa or on an expensive vacation to feel more calm, although those are both nice options. I have seven simple ways that you can relieve stress at home.
7 Stress Busters
1. Exercise
Even light exercise can cause the brain to release “feel-good” chemicals known as endorphins. Talk a walk or do some yoga. You’ll be sure to feel better when you’re done.
2. Sleep
A lack of sleep can cause stress and stress can prevent sleep. Unfortunate, isn’t it? I talk about ways to improve the quality of your sleep in this post.
3. Read
Reading transports your mind to another world. When you are reading, you are in a relaxed state and your breathing slows. See this post about why you should read more.
4. Talk to someone
Friend, parent or therapist, talking is a great way to relieve stress. Often, we make a situation way worse in our heads than it actually is. Expressing your feelings and fears to someone you trust can help to alleviate them. You might just realize that life is not as bad as you thought it was. At the very least, your confidant may help you to find a solution to your problem.
5. Meditate
Mediation is the act of thinking deeply or focusing one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting. To learn more about meditation, see here.
6. Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using essential oils to balance, harmonize and promote the health of the body, mind and spirit. Essential oils such as Lavender are great for aiding relaxation and improving moods. Click here to read the post I wrote previously about Essential Oils and their use.
7. Pamper yourself
As much as we all love them, spas are expensive. If you’re looking to treat yourself, there’s no reason why you can’t do it at home. Your feet are often neglected and overworked. A foot soak can leave them feeling rejuvenated.
A simple Foot Soak recipe is as follows:
0.5 cups Epsom salt
8 cups warm water
essential oil e.g. Peppermint or Lavender
Instructions
Pour the warm water into a basin. Add the Epsom salt and a few drops of the Essential oil of your choice. Soak your feet for about 20 mins.
Note: If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, please consult your doctor before using Essential oils.
