Got a small master bedroom in your home? Here are some simple room organization ideas to make the most of the space you have.
Back in my university days, I had a bedroom the size of Harry Potter’s broom closet. I packed a lot of function into that tiny room and it never felt cramped (unless I had friends over). It was my bedroom, study area, living room and storage space. That experience definitely taught me how to stick to the bare essentials and organize really well.
If you have a small master bedroom, then you know how challenging it can be to organize. Not only does it have to function as a peaceful sleep space, there also needs to be storage and it’s shared by two people.
Bedrooms in general are neglected areas of the home. Guests hardly ever see them so they tend to be used as a dumping ground for laundry etc.
Let’s change that and turn your small master bedroom into a sweet retreat. Use these tips to provide a haven where you and your significant other can retire at the end of each day.

Create Zones
First of all, think about how you use your master bedroom. Then, create zones for each purpose. Obviously there will be the bed for sleeping, but do you also work in your bedroom? Do you need a dressing area?
Limit the furniture in the room as much as possible. When space is in short supply, it’s best to just have the bare necessities present.
Small Master Bedroom Storage Ideas
In a small bedroom, you have to be clever with your storage. Any furniture that you have should do double duty. Use drawers as night stands instead of a simple table. That way you can utilize the extra storage they offer.
Since the bed takes up so much space, this is a prime opportunity to store stuff. Buy a storage bed with built-in drawers underneath. This gives you so much extra storage space without adding more furniture to the room.
Alternatively, if your budget does not allow for a new bed, raise your existing bed off the ground with risers. Stash items in under-the-bed containers. I personally recommend the plastic ones with lids as they hold their shape and the lids keep the contents free from dust and bugs. Be sure to label the containers so you know exactly what’s inside at a glance.
A storage headboard is also a great idea. Place small items like books, your cell phone and glasses in it.
Even radiators can be used for storage by using a radiator shelf.

Utilize the Walls and Doors
Walls and doors are great storage real estate. They allow you to maximize storage and organization without using up precious floor space. Attach shelves or hooks to the walls and use over-the-door storage organizers.
Keep Surfaces Clear
Remove unsightly clutter from the nightstand and any other surfaces in your bedroom. Reserve the space on top of your bedside tables for items you absolutely need just before bed or upon waking. Tuck everything else away into drawers.
If you have a hard time keeping surfaces clear, place a decorative item or two in that area. It may seem silly but as stuff starts to pile up there, it signals you to clear it. In the back of your mind, you’ll want to keep that area looking pretty.
If there’s a chair in your room that’s covered in laundry, books and other clutter, get rid of it. That’s a clear sign that you’re not using the chair for anything other than a dumping ground.

Keep It Simple
Whenever you organize a space, you need to keep the personalities and habits of the people who will be using that area in mind. If you or your significant other are naturally untidy, stay away from shelves where everything is out in the open.
Instead, place baskets on the shelves, as well as in drawers and cupboards. That way you can throw things into the appropriate basket. Everything is contained and organized.
Sure a small master bedroom can be tough to organize but it’s definitely doable. It’s incredibly important to have a tidy room filled with things you love instead of clutter. A cozy sanctuary helps you to get a good night’s sleep.
