Here are some creative but simple ideas for organizing under the sink whether it’s in the kitchen or bathroom of your home.
Under the sink organization—whether it’s in the kitchen or bathroom—can be a tough job. It’s such an awkward space with all the plumbing in the way. And usually, you store a variety of items there which makes this task even more challenging.
Most people shove some stuff in that cupboard, throw their hands in the air and walk away. But today, I’m going to share some tips with you so that you can maximize that weird space and make it functional.
Here are some super smart tips you need to know to when organizing under the kitchen or bathroom sink.

1. What to Store Under the Sink
First and foremost, be smart when you decide what you’ll store under the sink. Don’t place anything there can rust or will easily be damaged by water. You should also be wary of soap leaks, if you have a built-in dispenser. If there’s ever a leak, you’ll be glad you were thoughtful about what was stashed in that cupboard.
Store any items that may potentially be ruined by water or moisture in plastic storage containers.
2. Easy Access
Make sure you can easily access items stored. Constantly shuffling containers around or opening lids to see the contents is frustrating.
Use plastic drawers for smaller things. They’re great because you don’t have to move anything around to access the contents.
Clear bins that can stack on top of each other are also a good option for less frequently used items. Stacking bins makes the most of the space that’s available. Place the containers at the back of the cupboard and a set of drawers in front or another set of stacked bins. It’s totally up to you.
Label each drawer or container so you (and everyone else) knows exactly what’s inside each one. The key to maintaining an organization system is to make it ridiculously easy for everyone to know where everything is and more importantly, where to put things back.
A Lazy Susan is another fantastic option for making things easily accessible. Don’t restrict their use to just the under kitchen sink cabinet. Feel free to use them in the bathroom as well. They’re perfect for things you reach for all the time like cleaning products, hair products etc.
3. Don’t Forget Vertical Spaces
The sides and doors of cupboards are usually unappreciated and underused by most people. When you’re looking for smart storage solutions to maximize an awkward space, you can’t afford to be picky especially in a tiny kitchen or bathroom!
Place an over-the-door organizer on the cabinet door for additional storage. In the kitchen, this can be a good area to stash extra sponges and in the under bathroom sink cabinet, small items like wash cloths. Stick command hooks on the door or sides of the cupboard and hang scrubbing brushes, gloves and cleaning cloths.
4. Combine And Contain
Store like items together. When organizing under the bathroom sink, for example, place all of your cotton products in one area and all of your makeup in another. Doing this makes it super easy to find things when you need them. You don’t have to go to separate spaces to grab things that are used for similar functions.
5. Make It Pretty
It’s a simple but golden rule of mine when I’m organizing any space and that is to make it look pretty.
When a space looks good, you want to keep it that way. And any time it doesn’t, it triggers a little alarm in the back of you head that you need to clean up.
Just because you’re organizing under the sink—a space that’s usually out of sight—doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be pretty. When you open those cupboard doors, you’ll be in for a treat every time. Not to mention, you heart will do a little happy dance. Who doesn’t want that?
Want to know some home organization secrets for how to make the under-the-sink cupboard look good? Pick a color scheme and stick to it. Don’t use too many colors or patterns. It’s a small space and will be overwhelmed if too much is going on. Plus, less is always more in my book.
Line the shelves with pretty paper or shelf liner, use attractive baskets and storage containers. Leave plenty of space between items so that the cupboard doesn’t look cluttered.
Organizing under the sink in the kitchen and bathroom was probably something you struggled with before. Now you know my best secrets for getting it done right!
