I started craving a simpler life in 2015. The saying, “You can be a Jack of all trades but a master of none”, was always on my mind. I was trying to do way too much.
I have a full-time job, made bath and body products for sale, owned a bead shop AND I owned an online shop selling beading patterns that I create. Phew!

Where Did I Start?
The first thing I did was assess what I don’t need to or want in my life anymore. Cancelling services that I didn’t need or use made a big impact because I was no longer paying money every month for those services.
I stopped making bath and body products for sale so that eliminated me having to fulfill those orders.
Then, I started to declutter my home. After, sorting through my bath and body supplies, I removed the ones that I knew I no longer needed. The majority of these were sold through a Facebook group so I made a little money during this process. I was left with lots of space to store the items I was keeping and now that area feels so much better! For the first couple weeks after I got rid of that stuff, I literally breathed a sigh of relief anytime I walked past that spot. I somehow felt lighter.
Make Some Tough Decisions
Now, I’m in the process of closing my bead shop. Closing my shop was one of the hardest decisions, I’ve ever had to make. I’d been doing it for the last four years and I loved it but it was just taking up way too much of my time. I was constantly worrying and stressing about it and it wasn’t that profitable. It was the way I wanted to live my life.
I am by no means a minimalist but I am heading in that general direction. I simply want to own less, spend less and do more of what makes me happy. It’s not an overnight process but it’s something I’m working towards.
How Can You Live A Simpler Life?
1. Do only what you love.
Often life is so filled with so many obligations that you have no time to do what you truly enjoy. Think about what your passions are and leave room in your life for them.
2. Declutter
Create breathing room in your home by removing all unnecessary, unused and broken items. You can donate, give them away or sell the items. Just get rid of them. Only keep the items you absolutely love and use.
Also try decluttering your schedule. Sometime, we take on more that we can handle and our bodies and minds suffer because of it. Learn to say no sometimes and treat your time like the most precious commodity you have.
3. Stop Buying So Much Stuff
It seems like everywhere you turn, there’s something to be bought. One way to decrease the call of something new and shiny is to sleep on it. If I see an item I want to buy and I walk away and think about it for just one day, I usually don’t care about it by the next or I completely forget about it.
If you stop spending your money on items you don’t need, you will have more of it to use when it really counts and your home won’t fill up with clutter.
