Lots of people do. The truth is fatigue is related to your lifestyle. You’re busy with work, taking care of your family and trying to keep your home in order. It’s a lot to take on. The stress of coping with this fast-paced world can often cause us to create bad habits and routines.

1. Get Rid of Negativity
Have you ever been in a situation that left you feeling completely depleted mentally and physically? Perhaps you’re in a bad relationship and all you do is argue with your significant other. Maybe, you hate your job because you have a demanding boss or co-workers that just stir up trouble. Whatever it is you’re experiencing, it leaves you drained and lifeless.
Before you try other methods to boost energy levels, consider circumstances that are wearing you down. Really sit down and assess toxic relationships, the job you can’t stand, bad habits and anything else that has a negative impact on your life. You might be surprised how much of your life you dedicate to people or situations that don’t make you happy. It really takes a toll.
Do your best to change anything negative. Seek couples counselling or get out of the bad relationship, find another job, etc. Your happiness should be paramount especially when it’s affecting you physically.
2. Sleep
Adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep each night and while you’re in the Land of Nod, your body repairs itself.
If you have difficulty falling asleep, you are certainly not alone. Many adults suffer from sleep disorders. In an effort to improve your sleep quality, you can do several things:
- Make sure the temperature in your bedroom is just right—not too hot or cold.
- Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day which helps to reinforce your sleep-wake cycle.
- Jot down or talk about any thoughts or worries you have so they’re not racing through your mind all night.
3. Exercise
It might seem counter-intuitive that exercise will boost your energy levels but it’s true. Make room in your schedule for a workout session. Choose something you enjoy and do it with a friend so that it’s more fun and you’ll be more likely to stick with it.
Make sure you don’t workout too close to bedtime as this could actually hinder your ability to fall asleep. When I exercise, I like to do it first thing in the morning for two reasons. First, it leaves me feeling more energetic throughout the day and second, it reduces the chances of me slacking off.
After a long day when I’m tired, all I want to do is eat and relax. (Of course, I have a million other things to do but hey, one can dream.) The point is, the last thing I want to think about is working up a sweat. That’s just what works for me. Do what suits your obligations and schedule.
4. Nutrition
Eating well and exercise just tend to go hand-in-hand. When you’re suffering from low energy levels, your diet may be to blame.
Having a wholesome breakfast loaded with protein is a good way to start your day. This meal revs up your metabolism and helps you stave off fatigue. Eggs, ham and cottage cheese are protein-rich ingredients that you can enjoy. Add protein powder to shakes or smoothies for quick on-the-go meals.
Eat plenty of nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruits and lean protein. Drink lots of water to flush the body of toxins and keep you hydrated. Avoid processed foods with little nutritional value and alcohol as much as possible.
An easy way to eat healthier meals without giving it too much thought is to make your plate as colourful as possible. If you do this, you can rest assured that there’s a good range of vitamins and other nutrients in your food.
Meal planning allows you to enjoy more nourishing home-cooked meals. The simple act of planning ahead takes away the stress and frustration of not knowing what to eat which is often what leads us to consume junk food.
5. Treat Yourself
As we speed through life, we often ignore signs from our bodies telling us we need to slow down. It may be in the form of aches and pains or it may be low energy levels.
Take frequent breaks from your busy schedule and pamper yourself. This doesn’t necessarily mean going to the spa, even though that would be nice. It simply means do something that you enjoy and makes you relax.
Wake up before the others in your household and squeeze in some quiet time. If you’re not a morning person, find a peaceful place to enjoy your lunch. Read a book, take a walk or soak in a bubble bath, just make sure you’re calm and feel rested once you’re done.
It can be challenging to get through your day while fighting fatigue. Take care of your body and mind and your energy levels should improve over time. If you try these tips and they still don’t work, be sure to get examined by a doctor. There may be a deeper issue to blame.
